Sheepskin white
This white-tanned (natural tanning with alum, among other things, so-called white tanning) sheep nappa leather is available in 3 main thicknesses thin, medium and strong. The hide sizes are between 0.7 - 1.0 m². The flesh side is buffed, the hair side is smooth and stain resistant. The leather is adjusted in the regreasing in such a way that it can be glued well, but still has a protection against the environment caused by moisture fluctuations etc.. After processing the leather, it makes sense to treat the open surfaces with a suitable leather grease and to repeat this for maintenance work, e.g. every 5 years. In organ building, this leather is used for medium to large bellows or sometimes for valve linings. The thin leather rather as a cover strip. The leather is very tear-resistant due to this type of tanning and therefore very suitable for bellows in organ building. Invoicing according to area in m²! Please note our favorable quantity prices. We pass on some of our savings in handling to you, so we recommend purchasing at least 5 m² at the significantly lower price per square meter.
The thickness is chosen according to the size of the bellows. Stronger leather is also somewhat harder and only makes sense if the leather has a lot of freedom of movement. The medium thickness is normally used for windchest float bellows up to 1 m in length. For larger float bellows and large wedge bellows, the strong leather is used. For very large wedge bellows, the "strong PLUS" thickness is sometimes desired for the gussets. However, this strength is naturally only available in small quantities. Therefore, for large bellows, the more stable and up to 1.5 mm thick soft cowhide in beige color should be used. The thin sheepskin, only about 0.5 mm thick, is suitable for cover strips. Such thin sheepskin is not 100% tight or must be sealed due to the open holes of the former hair exits. Therefore we do not recommend the use in pneumatics. For this purpose we recommend our thin lamb leather or thin calf leather.
If you want to produce and chamfer the necessary leather strips yourself, we recommend our leatherchamfering device, a precise device for sharpening the leather edges even on gussets or cover caps.
We offer leather strips, bevelled on both sides, made of the above sheepskin, in small rolls of 10 linear meters in widths of 30, 40 and 50 mm. The price of such ready-made leather strips seems high. Keep in mind that the cutting, chamfering and assembling of the individual strips generates a lot of work, even with machine support.
For large magazine bellows or float bellows, the somewhat strongercowhide nappa leather, natural color and natural tanned, is also suitable.
NEW we can offer you gut strings with D=2,5 mm +. Ideal for bellows hinges on large wedge bellows. Sh. for this gut strings
